ENTHEOS ROCKED MY FACE OFF
First time seeing Entheos. I walked into Emo's not knowing exactly what I was in for, and I walked out with my face somewhere on the floor near the barricade. They fucking rocked my fucking face off.
Here is the honest version. I go into a lot of shows already knowing the band in my body. This one I didn't, and that turned out to be the gift. No expectations to live up to, nothing to compare it against. Just a band walking out and detonating.
Crazy energy. Not the fake kind, not the choreographed kind. The kind where the whole room leans the same direction because the band is pulling you there. From the first hit they had the place by the collar and they did not let go.
THE MUSICIANS
Amazing musicians, top to bottom. This is technical, heavy, moving-target music, the kind of thing that falls apart in lesser hands, and they played it like breathing. Tight when it needed to be a machine, loose when it needed to be a riot. You could feel every player carrying their corner of it. Nobody was coasting.
THE VOICE
And then there's Chaney Crabb. The vocals are stellar. Stellar. There is a range in that voice that does not make sense until you're standing in front of it, and even then your brain keeps trying to argue with your ears. Low enough to move the floor, sharp enough to cut, and never for a second like it's costing them control. I spent half the set just watching how she delivered it, bent over the mic like the sound was being pulled out of the ground.
That top photo is the one. That's the whole night in a single frame. One light, everything else falling away, and a vocalist giving the room something you can't fake.
AFTER
Got to meet them after. Good people, which is not a given and never something I take for granted. I've been in enough rooms to know that a band who plays like that and is still gracious at the merch table afterward is the exception, not the rule.
So that's my first time with Entheos. If they roll through your city and you're on the fence, get off the fence. Go stand in the front and let them take the top of your head off. I'm a convert now, and I don't say that lightly.

Primera vez que veía a Entheos. Entré a Emo's sin saber bien a qué le entraba, y salí con la cara tirada por ahí, cerca de la valla. Me partieron toda la madre.
La neta, así estuvo. Casi siempre llego a los shows ya conociendo a la banda en el cuerpo. A esta no, y resultó ser lo mejor. Sin expectativas que cumplir, nada con qué compararla. Nomás una banda saliendo a reventar todo.
Energía de locos. No la falsa, no la ensayada. De esa donde toda la sala se va para el mismo lado porque la banda te jala para allá. Desde el primer golpe agarraron el lugar del cuello y no lo soltaron.
LOS MÚSICOS
Músicos increíbles, de arriba a abajo. Es música técnica, pesada, que no se queda quieta, de esa que se cae a pedazos en manos torpes, y la tocaron como si respiraran. Apretados cuando tenían que ser máquina, sueltos cuando tenía que ser desmadre. Sentías a cada quien cargando su esquina. Nadie iba de flojo.
LA VOZ
Y luego está Chaney Crabb. La voz está de otro nivel. De otro nivel. Hay un rango en esa voz que no tiene sentido hasta que la tienes enfrente, y aun así tu cerebro sigue peleándose con tus oídos. Grave para mover el piso, filosa para cortar, y ni un segundo como si les costara el control. Me pasé medio set nomás viendo cómo la soltaba, doblada sobre el micro como si el sonido lo estuvieran sacando del suelo.
Esa foto de hasta arriba es la buena. Ahí está toda la noche en un solo cuadro. Una luz, todo lo demás desapareciendo, y una vocalista dándole a la sala algo que no se puede fingir.
DESPUÉS
Los alcancé a conocer después. Buena onda, cosa que no siempre pasa y que nunca doy por hecho. He estado en suficientes lugares como para saber que una banda que toca así y sigue siendo accesible en el puesto de mercancía es la excepción, no la regla.
Así que esa fue mi primera vez con Entheos. Si pasan por tu ciudad y estás dudando, deja de dudar. Ve, párate hasta adelante y déjalos que te vuelen la cabeza. Ya soy fan, y no lo digo a la ligera.
