Weekly Trends: Nails Sign to Closed Casket, Brujeria's Down Under Run Slips to 2027, Polaris Break Their Silence
Three things worth your time out of the past week: a hardcore band that came back with no marketing, a Down Under run that just evaporated, and a song written for a guitarist who is not here anymore.
Nails signs to Closed Casket Activities: two songs, no rollout, and an album a year out
Nails came back without a rollout. No countdown, no teaser campaign, no six weeks of cryptic bullshit on Instagram. On September 1 the Oxnard band dropped a two song seven inch called Fear Based Life and announced they had signed to Closed Casket Activities. That is it. Dollar Bin Generation and the title track, in and out, done. Here is the part that gets me: this was not a label swooping in on a hot name. Closed Casket founder Justin Louden has been in Todd Jones's corner since 2011, feeding him input on touring and business decisions with no paper between them. Fifteen years of showing up, then a handshake. The vinyl lands October 9 and the fifth Nails LP is not due until summer 2027, so they are telling you to wait. Nails have always been worth the wait. Flowers for the grind.
Brujeria loses its Down Under run: Carcass push the Australia and New Zealand tour to 2027
The Putrefying Down Under tour was supposed to start this month with Brujeria on the undercard, and now it is gone until next year. Carcass drummer Dan Wilding is dealing with a family situation and cannot be that far from home for that long, and the band said it plainly instead of hiding behind corporate language about unforeseen circumstances. Respect for that. New dates start September 7, 2027 in Perth. Tickets stay valid. Australia, the Mexicutioners are still coming. Just hold the line.
Polaris breaks a three year silence: Without You is for Ryan Siew
First new Polaris song since 2023, and it is about the guitarist they buried. Without You landed September 3 with a video shot in an empty cathedral, cut against old footage of Ryan Siew. Three years on and still bleeding. That closing breakdown is not catharsis. It is a scream.
